Police mentioned they were contacted by a resident who found a vehicle in Hanau marked with reddish substance

Approximately fifty automobiles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a statement.

Police state they were notified late on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.

The liquid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they reported.

Officers then located numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement report early analysis suggest the fluid was likely blood from a person.

"Currently there is no indication as to its source; officials are currently not aware of any physical harm in association with the event," they added.

Local authorities stated they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the community for details.

A high-ranking political figure said the incident left him speechless and had to be solved promptly.

"This event affects the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on online, referring to the killing of nine people by a assailant targeting people of migrant background in February 2020.
